CGPA to Percentage

Convert CGPA to a percentage, or a percentage back to CGPA, with the multiplier your board actually uses.

Enter the values and press Calculate.

CBSE often multiplies a 10-point CGPA by 9.5. Your university may use a different factor. Use the one printed on the marksheet or the university notice.

About this calculator

CGPA is an average of grade points. A percentage is a different scale. The bridge between them is a multiplier chosen by the board or the university, not by arithmetic that is the same everywhere.

CBSE’s familiar 10-point conversion multiplies CGPA by 9.5. That is the default in the box so the common case is one tap away. If your marksheet, transcript note, or admission brochure prints another factor, replace 9.5 before you calculate. Using the wrong factor is worse than doing the multiplication by hand.

The reverse division turns a percentage back into a CGPA on that same factor. It is only as good as the factor.

For a simple “marks out of total” percent, use the percentage calculator instead. This page is only the grade-point conversion.

Conversion

Percentage = CGPA × multiplier
CGPA = percentage ÷ multiplier

The default multiplier is 9.5, which CBSE has used for a 10-point CGPA. A university can prescribe a different factor. The marksheet or the university notice wins.

Example

A CGPA of 8.2 times 9.5 is 77.90%.

If your university says the factor is 10, the same CGPA is 82%. The calculator cannot know which notice applies to you.

CGPA 8.2 × 9.5

Only if your board uses 9.5.

77.90%

How to use

  1. Choose CGPA to percentage, or the reverse.
  2. Enter the value.
  3. Change the multiplier if your board does not use 9.5.
  4. Press Calculate.

Important notes

  • Do not assume every Indian board uses 9.5.
  • A 4-point scale is not a 10-point scale. The multiplier will be different.
  • This does not recalculate subject marks. It only applies the factor you enter.

FAQ

Is 9.5 always correct?

No. It is the usual CBSE 10-point factor. Other boards and universities publish their own.

Can I convert a percentage back?

Yes. Choose “Percentage to CGPA”. The result is the percentage divided by the multiplier.

What about a 4-point GPA?

Do not leave the multiplier at 9.5. Use the factor your university printed for that scale.

Will this match an official transcript?

Only if you used the same factor the transcript uses. The page does not contact the board.
